Summary: Melbourne ? VIC. c. 1945-11. Portrait of Captain Kay I. A. "Tootie" Parker (left) and Lieutenant Mavis Cullen, both AANS. They were among six nursing sisters captured by the Japanese at Rabaul in January 1942 and later that year shipped to Japan. Parker was awarded the Australian Royal Red Cross (ARRC) for devotion to duty at Rabaul in 1942, her citation making no mention of her leadership and inspiration during her subsequent captivity at Yokohama Yacht Club, and Totsuka Prisoner of War (POW) camps.
