(SEE ALSO P00277.04, 02, 03, 04) JEFFERSON BARRACKS, NATIONAL CEMETERY. PLAQUE COMMEMORATING ALLIED PERSONNEL FROM THE U.S.A., GREAT BRITAIN, THE NETHERLANDS AND AUSTRALIA WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN WORLD WAR II, 1944-07 TO 1946-01. VX32696 PRIVATE CHARLES FREDERICK WARD OF 2/2 AND 2/40 PIONEERS, AUSTRALIAN IMPERIAL FORCE, SERVED IN TIMOR AND THEN AS A POW ON THE BURMA-THAILAND RAILWAY. TOWARDS THE END OF 1944 HE WAS TRANSFERRED TO JAPAN WHERE HE DIED AS A MINER IN 1945. HE WAS CREMATED IN JAPAN TOGETHER WITH THE OTHERS LISTED ON THE PLAQUE, AND THE REMAINS DEPOSITED IN A SINGLE URN. AS THE MAJORITY WERE AMERICANS, THEIR EVENTUAL RESTING PLACE WAS NO. 1 COMMUNAL URN, JEFFERSON BARRACKS, NATIONAL CEMETERY, MISSOURI, U.S.A.
