Source: copies of original report furnished by Lt.Robert H. Dolder's son, Lt. Col (Ret) Michael C. Dolder (Ord).

2nd Lt. Robert H. Dolder headed the team that effected the rescue of a number of camps in the Tokyo area. Before the surrender, such teams were formed- some with parachute training- to be inserted in the POW camps at the time of the invasion, in hopes of saving the men from extermination.

These reports were completed upon his return to Manila.

SUBJECT: REPORT OF RECOVERY TEAM 56

ATTENTION: RECOVERED PERSONNEL DET.

1. Report on Kawasaki Camp #1 Bunsho

a. Location: Kawasaki Camp #1 Bunsho is located in Kawasaki shi Oshimacho Sicho me.
b. Description of Camp, Kawasaki Camp #1 Bunsho was opened the 24 August 1942 and closed at the end of the war, When the war was over there were 205 Peisoners in the camp, 48 Americans, 135 British, 8 Australians, 1 Dutch, and 13 Chinese and other Allied civilians. The Prisoners of War worked for a Transportation Company loading and unloading freight cars.

2. Records found:

a. A roster of prisoners in Kawasaki Camp #13 Bunsho
b. Roll call roster
c. Three address books containing addresses of the POW's
d. Miscellaneous Japanese documents

3. Deaths in the camp:

a. It is known that there were 14 deaths in the camp. No record as to name of person and date.

4. Summary:

The Japanese commanders of Kawasaki Camp #1 Bunsho were: Major Shohei Hamada, 1st Lt. Hiroshi Takeuchi, 1st Lt. Hidetomi Emori. 1st Lt. Sokei Masso. The NCO's in charge were: Sgt. Keizaburo Ohki, Sgt. Kasumasa M[a]ekawa, and Sgt. Nizaimon Higashide.

Recovery team No. 56 made a thorough search of the above mentioned camp and found the information stated above
